Pool Deck Drainage/ Paver Repair

paver damage

It's not only hot in Jacksonville, it rains a lot too! Install a new pool in and one assumes that the drainage is included. I guess this isn't necessarily true. The pool deck was installed 3 years ago. All looks well, they installed a drain box. Wait... The drain box isn't connected to anything? It's a plastic box in the ground, that overflows when it rains. Three years later, the overflowing box washed the pavers out, causing them to collapse.

The deck repair was comprised of several smaller "handyman" type  jobs. First, a 3-foot deep trench was dug and a French Drain was installed and connected to the existing drain box. This allows the pool deck to drain into the box and then into an underground drainage system where it is slowly absorbed below the lawn.

The second part of this job was the paver repair. The collapsed pavers were removed, along with two additional rows of level pavers. A concrete footer is laid, creating a new foundation at the proper height for the remaining pavers. Base sand was then added and pitched to match the base of the remaining pavers that were not removed earlier. The removed pavers were then placed back in their original place. The deck is now level and in place, but not secure. To hold the elevated pavers in place, a concrete toe was laid.

With the drainage solution in place and the deck repaired, things are good for years to come.

A 3-ft deep trench was dug and a French Drain was connected to the existing drain box, allowing the deck to drain into an underground drainage system.
